eBay vs Poshmark – Understanding Poshmark Fees & eBay Fees
Looking to sell on Poshmark or eBay? Both platforms offer a convenient way to declutter your closet as well as start a scalable business. In this blog post, we’ll explore both eBay and Poshmark fees, providing you with essential insights and three tips to make the most of your selling experience on both platforms.
Understanding Poshmark Fees:
Poshmark’s fee structure is relatively straightforward:
- No Listing Fee: Listing items on Poshmark is completely free. You can create listings for your items without any incurring upfront charges, making it a great option for new sellers that are just getting started.
- Commission Fee: Poshmark charges a flat 20% commission fee on all sales over $15. This means that if you sell an item for $100, Poshmark will deduct a $20 commission fee, and you’ll receive $80 as your earnings. For items priced at $15 or less, Poshmark applies a flat commission fee of $2.95.
- Shipping Fee: Poshmark provides a prepaid shipping label for the buyer, which the buyer pays for. Sellers do not have to worry about shipping costs.
Understanding eBay Fees:
eBay’s fee structure is a little more complex than Poshmark’s, so it’s important to grasp the key fees associated with selling on eBay:
- Insertion Fee: eBay allows a certain number of free listings per month for casual sellers, but if you exceed that limit, you’ll be charged an insertion fee per listing. If you list more than 250 items per month, you’ll start paying a $0.35 insertion fee per listing. If you’re listing over 250 items per month, then consider getting a store subscription in order to unlock more free monthly listings, save on final value fees, and access tools designed for larger sellers. An eBay store requires a monthly subscription and includes x amount of listings depending on the store size you choose.
- Final Value Fee (FVF): This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.
3 Tips for Successful Selling on eBay and Poshmark:
- High-Quality Photos and Descriptions: Regardless of the platform, invest time in taking clear photos of your items in good lighting. Be sure to write detailed and accurate descriptions, including brand, size, condition, and any flaws. Transparency builds trust with potential buyers and leads to quicker sales as well as less questions.
